I thought this was a particularly funny example of pretentious bullshit.

(Read the Royal Academy of Engineering's description of how they created their logo). I don't think the logo is bad, it's just the phrases like: ...
"so the door was open for a major rethink - We viewed that as an opportunity the give the Acadamey not what it had thought it had to have but something that it thought it could never have [do academies think?]/ We began to consider radically different creative approaches to the design of the logo and explore the symbolic representation of for example the Academy's thinking and its people-centricity."

Dead Dog cruelty?

Cruelty to animals in Italy is incredible.
I thought about calling the police but I hope there's a better explanation like maybe the owner was old and died (or in the Tsunami maybe) or was imprisoned or something. I don't mean to wish bad thoughts to that person - just looking for a way of explaining what I saw without assuming they are a very heartless person. I hope they didn't just leave him in the freezing cold to die in the enclosed space of the steel fence you can see below.

I saw this poor little fellow's body just after Christmas. I heard that hundreds of thousands of dogs are abandoned by the roadside by Italians going away for Xmas, but this is worse. I don't want to believe it was cruelty. The body was still there the day after I first saw it. If I'm publishing this photo and there is an innocent explanation, apologies to the owner. I just wanted to do what I can to stop this kind of thing happening.

Update:
Eventually I
I emailed a friend who lives next door. He asked the neighbour. The neighbour doesn't have a dog and was really shocked. So either the dog was abandoned and rolled up there looking for warmth, or he was dumped, explanation unknown. We shall never know.

My friend also told me that it's law in Ranco that all dead animals must be cremated which costs money. This could be an explanation but who knows?

Nov 2005 - just saw this item about practices in China. What I don't get about it is - why the big deal about cats and dogs - I agree with everything it says, but do other animals suffer less? Why should we only care about animals which human beings happen to have a special relationship with.
