Questions

I'm interested in the views of a random section of the population on a couple of questions:

1. I find that there are some people who just never want to talk about anything interesting like feelings and emotions, sex and relationships etc... They just stick to the mundane topics of what they've been doing, what you've been doing - etc. Why is it that these people won't talk? Is it

a. because there is some inherent incompatibility between me and them which means they think the same thing about me (I won't talk about interesting things). I.e. everyone has a set of people they talk about interesting things with and if you aren't in that set for a given person, you don't get to do it even if you want to.

Or is it b. because certain people just never talk about that sort of thing. If it's b. and you're one of these people - why and how do you do it? I suppose that's a bit of a non-starter as a question. How about - if you're not - any theories about why and how they do it.

2. I find that there are certain sections of society that I just never meet. E.g. 4WD/SUV owners who don't need an SUV. I have only ever met one person who owns an SUV and he is an avid hang-glider. Here are some more:
people who buy porcelain dolls
people who think it's worth paying money for a label on their clothes
people who think it's worthwhile to train for 7 years to be an accountant

Yet I know from circumstantial evidence that there are millions and millions of them living all around me. How can this be? What is it that's selecting the people I meet. Do they have the same experience - are you an SUV owner - do you find that you don't meet non-SUV owners or you instinctively avoid them? Can you explain why you own an SUV to people who don't? Do you spend thousands of euros on designer labels - can you explain why trousers with gucci written on them are more cool than the same trousers without?
