How can Italians watch Italian TV?
Apart from the incredibly beautiful scantily clad Italian women which adorn the gameshow hosts in 80% of programmes, but say nothing whatsoever in some strange hang back to the UK in the 1950's, Italian TV is excruciatingly crap. One smarmy game show after another, kitsch sets, awful tasteless musical interludes. Yet I am reliably informed that it is like this not because it's the cheapest thing that they could come up with and they're short of cash, but because people actually like watching this stuff - how can this be????? I would be grateful for ideas.

IRAQ etc...
Here's what I reckon.
- Firstly - the US has an appalling track record of intervening in other countries' affairs - Vietnam being the worst example where 2 million people were killed - many of them innocent children and nothing was acheived. The US' motivations were dubiouis to say the least. I am actually afraid to say this in a potentially public forum - I don't know if this is because I'm paranoid or because of sinister projects like echelon and all the stuff you hear about US intelligence. There is a story in my research center that someone who I shall not name was near the guy who was killed in G8 Genoa 2001 when it happened. When he was pulled up in court, they quoted stuff which they could only have known by tapping his phone before the incident. That makes me wary.
- Secondly - look at history - there are sinister similarities with the Nazis. I am not saying Americans are Nazis - just pointing out some repetitions in history.
-Leader gets into power by dodgy means.
-Leader uses flimsy pretext to invade other countries.
-Leader tries to use diplomacy to get what he wants but failing that just invades anyway.
- Leader becomes incredibly popular due to common enemy despite appalling management of economy.
- Creation of exaggerated popular paranoia by creating or spinning security incidents
- Thirdly why Iraq? See this , China and Tibet (Trade agreements with US), Syria, Zimbabwe etc....
- 4thly do we really think we can stop these guys by invading Iraq? It used to be like that but nowadays we are talking the flea on the bulls back. If the bull thrashes out, it will just destroy the china and catch more fleas.
- Finally - disclaimer - politics is complicated and my only window on it is thro' the media - so in a sense any personal position without all the facts is pointless.

Airport security
I'd really like to do a skit on all this rubbish that goes on at the airport. Can you imagine someone holding up an aeroplane with some of these? Then they sell glass bottles in so called "duty-free"...

1984
George Orwell's 1984 was a futuristic novel which depicted a complete loss of privacy, a complete submission to state propoganda and complete control even of people's most inner thoughts. It's now nearly 2004 and things are actually not that far off. In 1984 citizens have to have a telescreen in their living room. It must never be switched off. They also have to listen to or watch propoganda broadcasts wherever they go. The state creates fictitious or real wars as a means of channelling aggressive energy away from the state and distracting people from their meaningless state-controlled lives.
We are not controlled so much by the state as by big business. People don't need to be forced to have a telescreen in their rooms spouting propoganda all day, they do it voluntarily, almost without exception, they even turn on the propoganda machine in their cars (or don't switch it off so that it's on when they get in). They are however forced to watch propoganda in all public places, even public services such as post offices etc... There is no escape even if you want to. The control extends to thought control because people are controlled to such an extent that they actually want to do what they are being forced to do (manic consumerism, wars etc...). They are controlled subcsciously (See this on subliminal tricks in advertising)
Wars are drummed up at will by arms industries to support big business and to distract people from any economic woes (see 1962 Vietnam War?,1992, 2003 war on Terror/Iraq or alternatively the surreal version).
